Can I use a copy of a painting on my book cover without special permission from the artist?
I bought a copy of a painting and want to use it on the cover of a book I have published. Since I am paid for printing and I confess now I can not use it that way without having to obtain permission from the artist's original?
Because you have purchased the print and because the artist has given permission for prints of their work, you want to enter all sorts of trouble using your legally purchased print any way you wish. You can even use it to line your cage bird and would not be difficult. The only way you could get into trouble if you do is your own copy someone else's art that was copyrighted and sold for a profit.
