What's the best tool for cutting off a padlock?
Is abolt cutter tough enough? Would a grinding wheel be better? Do you cut thru the shank, or drill into the lock, maybe?
Hi. It depends on the quality of the padlock. Most padlocks can be cut by bolt cutters, but if your lock has a shackle bigger than about 10mm (3/8), its gunna be hard. Angle grinder will work for nearly all padlocks but be careful. Drilling is not usually a practical option. Almost no padlocks have the key codes stamped on them for security reasons. Best bet, Big bolt cutters and avoid the police.
