I need to stretch a stretched canvas painting pre-?
I start a new project in oil painting, so I bought a painting by artist who is at the base rectangular frame of wood, hope your familiar with them. If the canvas is mounted and stapled on stretcher bars, it is already stretched. More often than not, pre-stretched canvases will also double or triple primed with a white acrylic. Do not be mislead. He is allowed to put oil on top of acrylic. Normally paintings like yours ready paint on the right of the box. Beveled stretcher bars are included with your canvas probly only for use if there is some slack in the canvas. There are better methods to strengthen the fabric if necessary. Get a mister bottle and spray the back of the cloth slightly with water and let dry. You tighten the canvas nicely. Another thing to check is the canvas in the store before buying. Give it a few times to see if it is tight as a drum. You should be able to do so even if it is packaged in plastic. So, just press your fabric to see how it is waterproof. If you can press a little pace on it, it is ready.
