Professional Artists, how do you force yourself to motivate to finish a project when you don't feel like it?
i'm addressing those of you, who work for money
i personally would rather sit around and look at 4chan, play Warcraft or do Yahoo Answers all day, rather than start or finish some piece of work , that i know is actually the thing that feeds me in life ... so what do you all do? ... the ones of you that have this problem anyway?
I think most true artists don't look at it as a chore. For many years, art was the main focus of my existence. I was driven to do it, I just couldn't help myself. Putting brush to canvas, or pencils to paper was what I got up in the morning for. I only slacked off on it because my mom said I was spending too much time on it. When I explained I intended to make it my life's work, she told me to stop being foolish. She said art was a nice hobby, but you couldn't earn a living at it. She could have. She produced oil paintings that were simply breathtaking! Still, she shot down yet another of my dreams.
To be a truly gifted artist, one must have more than talent. One must have a passion for it. If you have only the talent, but not the passion, perhaps you should evaluate whether you are in the best career for you.
In the meantime, total up your bills, and subtract that amount from your checking account. That should motivate like nothing else!
