How can you mix a light red without ending up w/ pink? (Oil Paints)?
This is my first venture into oil paint and I'm enjoying it but keep getting stuck on little things. I'm having a hard time getting a lighter red without ending up with pink. I did achieve a nice coral color but its not working for my painting. I've a book on mixing colors but its currently not helping, neither is my color wheel. If you have any suggestions I would be grateful. Here is a list of what I have.
Ivory Black
Flake White
Lamp Black
Titanium White
Raw Sienna
Yellow Ochre
Prussian Blue
French Ultramarine
Ultramarine Violet
Burnt Umber
Cobalt Blue Deep
Cadmium Yellow
Chrome Yellow Hue
Scarlet Lake
Permant Alizarin Crimson
I mixed Alizarin Crimson with the Scarlet Lake and some Cadmium Yellow and I got a nice red but now i need something that compliments but is lighter.

Couple of suggestions: 1. use Cad Red light and if you still need it lighter try Cad Yel light. 2. Try glazing Scarlet Lake over pure yellow or over white.
